The Real Reason You Need to Practice Mindfulness

Let’s get a jumpstart on 2015.

First, screw Resolutions.

You’re not making any.

They rarely work.

And I don’t want you to wait for some predetermined date.

Make your resolutions daily.

Remember, when it seems like life is an uphill battle ;  put your stake in the ground. Mark this moment as yours.

We’re going to make 2015 our year of compounding growth. And we’re going to do that in all areas of our life, not just financial.

How? Easy.

Focus on just 1% Improvement.

Let that 1% compound over the course of the year.

This is where your Note Book/Journal comes in handy.

As you go through your day, you can write down how you spend your time and how you feel.

Since you know what you want to create in your life, and you know the habits the you need to have, it’ll be easy to see where you can improve. Each evening, spend a moment to recap your day.

Write down:

  • What went right…
  • What can you improve…
  • What needs to be done tomorrow…

Now, you know the real reason I keep suggesting that you practice mindfulness is two-fold.

First, your mind has a running narrative; a story of who you are.

Your narrative is based on false assumptions and faulty memories. Your narrative loves confirmation bias. It’s lazy. It makes shit up. It’s a liar.

Your inner critic is a trickster.

When you practice mindfulness, you recognize your own Self Sabotage.

Mindful Awareness allows you to look inward in a nonjudgemental way. You get to ask better questions and you get to guide the conversation going on inside of your head. You get to see your reactions and the underlying principles that guide your life.

Become aware of your response to life.

With awareness, comes the power to change.

  • You can change the way you talk to yourself.
  • Change your focus.
  • Change the way you spend your time,

That trifecta will help you make drastic improvements in a short period of time without shocking your system with Big Scary Goals and Bold Actions.

It all starts with your breath.

Bring your awareness to it. Deepen your breath. Sink into the present moment.

A solid mindfulness practice and a daily habit of writing in your notebook will help you make the changes you need to make; face your fears, let go of anger, reduce your stress, increase your productivity.

Little by little, day by day, and breath by breath 2015 will be your most amazing year yet. You will let go of your worries, and focus on what’s right in front of you.

Remember, for now, I say screw big bold actions!

The second reason I keep mentioning for you to practice Mindfulness is Because, You Haven’t Done it Consistently!

You need to create the practice into an automatic habit.

Oh, the irony…

Last year you practically taught a course on habits.

The teaching was sound. Science based. Go back to that. Review it. Put it into practice.

Make it your priority to create a positive habit chain that covers each of the areas of your life, so that you can create the results you want in each.

Take a moment after you send this email to the Soul Surfers and write down a list of positive habits you know will help you be happier, healthier and wealthier.

Then we will work on creating habit chains that support you in those areas so that you can create the life you’ve been dreaming about since you were 12 years old.
